St George Illawarra dragons key man has been sacked due to the…..

Paul McGregor has been sacked by the St George/Illawarra Dragons effective immediately with Dean Young taking over the interim coaching role.

The writing had been on the wall for McGregor for months now and it just felt like a matter of time before he was handed his marching orders.

MgGregor coached the Dragons in 150 NRL games, winning 69 matches at a 46% winning percentage.

It will be interesting to see if the Dragons now look to wait out Shane Flanagans suspension or if they decide to chase a coach is is available to the club immediately.

“You don’t go whinging and moaning, you roll your sleeves up, work hard and get through it. You don’t go and whinge to whoever. We all have to stick together.”

Channel 7 reporter Michelle Bishop told SEN on Friday that the Dragons have been “watching” the player for months and are “not happy” with the behaviour.

“That person just continues to agitate,” Bishop said.

“There’s plenty of talk around who that player is and it wouldn’t be fair or legal to single that player out but they’re watching him, they’re not happy.

“The name I’m hearing… they’ve [the Dragons] been across it for months.”

“It’s not good, full stop,” SEN breakfast host Andrew Voss responded.

“If they know this is happening and it’s to the detriment of the club, they’ll show the bloke the door. There’s no place for it, he’s out, he’s gone.”

Meanwhile, former front row enforcer Michael Weyman was furious players were expressing their frustration to the media.

“It pisses me off. You don’t talk behind each other’s backs – it’s deceitful. If you’ve got a problem then go talk to the other person – you don’t leak it,” Weyman said.

Over the last two rounds the Dragons have leaked 86 points, but Griffin believes he is still the man to lead the famous Red V forward.

“That’s just part of the job. That stuff happens. Most of that stuff gets played out outside our four walls. I’d like to leave it that way,” Griffin said.

“That type of situation is stuff that gets talked about outside of here. My role is to get the team ready for (Friday) night, that’s the main thing. All the other stuff is for the papers and for the fans.
