evaluating every move the Rams have made in free agency thus far

NFL free agency has begun, and several well-known players have already left the market. The Los Angeles Rams have signed six players so far, including outside players and their own free agents.

In addition to re-signing Demarcus Robinson, Kevin Dotson, and most recently, Alaric Jackson, they also reached agreements with three other free agents, one of them, Darious Williams, is leaving the Jags after two years to return to Los Angeles.

Robinson was re-signed by the Rams to a one-year contract with a base value of $4 million and a maximum value of $5 million as their first offseason move. Although Robinson is likely to start as the Rams’ third-best receiver in the upcoming campaign, this agreement does not prevent the Rams from selecting a different wide receiver in the draft or through free agency to surpass Robinson and drop him to WR4.

After Robinson proved to be a weapon in the latter part of the season, it was a successful start to the offseason, resulting in a totally reasonable contract.

Even although Les Snead stated he expected the guard to test the market, Dotson was the Rams’ top free agent the entire time, and Los Angeles completed a deal before he could accept any other offers. At $16 million annually, Dotson’s contract seems like a terrific value in light of Jonah Jackson’s $51 million and Robert Hunt’s $100 million contracts.

After Rob Havenstein emerged as one of the league’s top guards the previous season, it was critical for the Rams to re-sign Dotson to maintain the backbone of their offensive line for 2024.

When it was announced, the Rams had just re-signed Dotson and Steve Avila at left guard, so Jackson’s addition was unexpected. But it’s evident that the Rams think Avila is a stronger center and plan to shift him there, freeing Jackson to assume the left guard position.

Paying two guards is expensive, but the offensive line that Jackson, Avila, and Dotson form is one of the best in football. It’s just a costly one, so let’s hope they can all A) maintain their health and B) keep up their excellent play.

This signing was also a bit of a surprise, considering how quickly everything came together. With Tyler Higbee sidelined by torn ACL and MCL, the Rams needed help at tight end, thus it was unexpected to see them shell out so much money for a guy at that position. Parkinson isn’t exactly cheap at $7.5 million a year, and even if Davis Allen keeps improving and Higbee returns before Week 1, there’s no guarantee he’ll be the No. 2 tight end.

Nevertheless, Parkinson was passed over on the Seahawks’ depth chart and, at 6-foot-7 and a strong blocker, he has a lot of potential to play well in Los Angeles.
