SAD NEWS FROM ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA………

The uncertainty around Zac Lomax’s future will continue to rumble on after St George Illawarra confirmed he would leave the club upon the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Lomax was contracted through until 2026 at the Dragons, however it has since been agreed by both parties that these years will be terminated to allow both parties to go their separate ways.

“By finalising this decision now, it provides both Zac and the club with clarity regarding the future, allowing us time to strategise for the upcoming seasons,” the club’s CEO Ryan Webb said.

“This arrangement enables the Dragons to focus on refining our Top 30 roster and utilising additional cap space, while Zac can pursue his future endeavours with another club.”

The news comes after Ben Hunt revealed Lomax had been unhappy at the club.

The source of his frustration stems from Shane Flanagan’s decision to move him to the wing in order to accommodate a return to the centres for Jack Bird.

This selection reportedly caught Lomax – who has featured predominantly at centre during his near 100-game NRL career to date – by surprise with a proposed run at fullback never materialising.

The 24-year-old has since started the season strongly for the Dragons while operating in the unfamiliar position.

Although after his management reportedly requested an early release up to six times, he will don new colours in 2025.

The Eels have struggled for quality and depth in their backline with Will Penisini and Maika Sivo the only two who seem assured of a starting place under Brad Arthur.

Bailey Simonsson has attempted to establish himself in the centres since his switch from Canberra but a mixture of injuries and the requirement to fill in on the wing have dented his progression.

Lomax would bring genuine star quality to Parramatta’s backline and could provide an aerial threat in good field position, which they have lacked while having Mitch Moses’ pinpoint kicking to call upon.
