New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito left the field late in the second quarter for concussion protocol check following a hard hit on a scramble.
The check was mandated by the independent neurologist. There was some hope when he was seen jogging to the locker room at halftime. DeVito took a beating in the first half, taking 4 sacks on 20 total dropbacks, as well as several tackles as a runner.
DeVito was continuing to be evaluated when the teams returned to the field, per the broadcast.
He ultimately returned to the field when the Giants got the ball in the third quarter.
Earlier in the game, placekicker Randy Bullock was ruled questionable to return to the game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury
Bullock left the field after the kickoff which followed the team’s game-opening field goal. The veteran kicker came up limping following the kickoff and was taken into the blue medical tent.
Bullock’s injury seems to be a result of hitting the ground as he executed the kick. It’s notable that the kick came up short and was returned (albeit with a short return) by the Saints.
His status for the remainder of the game is unknown as of this writing. The Giants do have a backup plan, as punter Jamie Gillan is capable of placekicking and has done so before.
The Giants have had issues with hamstring injuries throughout the year, and they might be cautious with Bullock as a result.
The team acquired second-year kicker Cade York at the same time as Bullock, but cut and signed York to the practice squad after Bullock was elevated to the active roster three time.
York will likely be the Giants kicker next week if Bullock’s injury is serious.
