Sad news from Alabama…

Nick Saban names two defensive starters questionable and updates the status of a few offensive players.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Two Alabama defensive starters, Jaylen Key and Deontae Lawson, left the LSU game with injuries and did not return. After the game, head coach Nick Saban said it was an ankle injury for Lawson and quad injury for Key, but could not add more than that until further testing was done.
On Monday, Saban didn’t have much more of an update, calling both guys questionable for this week’s game at Kentucky.
“I think we prepare to play [them] in this game because both guys have injuries that are day-to-day in terms of what they’re going to be able to do,” Saban said. “So it’s not just a matter of whether they would be ready to play in the game, but can they practice enough to be ready to play in the game?”
Saban also provided a progress report on junior safety DeVonta Smith, who has missed the entire season with a foot injury.
It appears Alabama football could have two of its defensive starters back for the Iron Bowl against Auburn. Deontae Lawson and Jaylen Key are likely to play according to head coach Nick Saban, who shared the news on his pregame radio show appearance.
On Wednesday, Saban sounded more optimistic on their statuses than in previous weeks.
“They both practiced quite a bit this week, Saban said. “We’ll just see how they continue to progress.”
