The New York Giants made a series of roster moves Saturday for their season finale on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants placed starting safety Jason Pinnock, who had previously been ruled out of the game with a toe injury suffered last week against the Los Angeles Rams, on injured reserve.
That move left the Giants with two open roster spots after Tyre Phillips, who tore a quad tendon last week, was placed on injured reserve.
To fill those openings, the Giants signed quarterback Jacob Eason and tight end Tyree Jackson from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Eason, who has been on and off the practice squad this season, was signed as a third, emergency quarterback.
Starter Tyrod Taylor was limited throughout the week with a back injury.
Jackson, who has been on the practice squad all season, played in two prior games for the Giants with one start.
He has played 18 offensive snaps.
The Giants also elevated placekicker Mason Crosby and offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste from the practice squad.
Rodgers will try again in 2024 to start at quarterback and turn around the Jets’ fortunes and his longtime buddy would not bet against him.
“I wouldn’t do that with Aaron,’’ Crosby said. “He was pushing to see if he could get back for this year, which would have been unheard of.
I think that’s how he’s operated and that’s his mentality, kind of the underdog since he was drafted a little later than he thought he was and he works best in that role, where he’s pushing to prove people wrong.’’
This could be the first true winter-weather game for the Giants, coming in their season finale, with snow turning to a mix of snow and rain expected throughout the day before the storm leaves the area in the evening.
