Of all the shoes to fill on the Georgia roster, none are bigger than those left by Brock Bowers.
The two-time All-American, who caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in Georgia’s 2021 national championship win over Alabama and wound up setting all of Georgia’s tight end records, is likely headed toward a top-10 selection in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Bulldogs have plenty of contenders to fill that void.
Oscar Delp is back for his junior year after being Bowers’ wingman this past season.
Colton Heinrich and Jaden Reddell are on campus and were two of the top prep tight ends in the 2024 class.
But the most intriguing player is sophomore Lawson Luckie.
At 6’3, 240 pounds, Luckie is the most explosive of the group and has a chance to take a big step in year two.
Being around Brock [Bowers], Brock is just somebody who, he never turns on or off.
He’s always [even],” said Luckie in a recent episode of the Players Lounge with former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray.
“You know, he’s so consistent. And it’s just good seeing somebody who, it doesn’t matter how they’re feeling, no matter what, you’re gonna get their best every time.
Trying to replace the production of Brock Bowers [40 starts, 2,538 receiving yards, and 31 touchdowns] is a daunting task, but Luckie doesn’t feel like the moment is going to be too big for anyone in the tight end room.
“There’s no pressure. I feel like no one’s expecting us to come out there and be Brock. That’s not, that’s unrealistic.
It’s just a good feeling, knowing the standard that’s been set.
We have a great room to come up, and I’m excited to see what this room can do.
