ANNOUNCEMENT: Anders Carlson, Announce Resignation And Departure From Green Bay Packers Today….

FOXBORO — The New England Patriots have reportedly found their heir apparent to former defensive line coach — and newly-promoted defensive coordinator — DeMarcus Covington to guide their preventive front.

The Patriots, per ESPN, are hiring former Green Bay Packers defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery to join the staff of new head coach Jerod Mayo.

While his title has yet to be confirmed, it is widely assumed that Montgomery will succeed Covington as the Pats new d-line coach.

Montgomery spent the past nine seasons in Green Bay under head coaches Mike McCarthy and Matt LaFleur.

He served as the team’s defensive front assistant from 2015 through 2017.

In 2018, the 44-year-old was hired as the assistant head coach and defensive line coach at Texas A&M, However, he instead chose to remain with the Packers as both their defensive line coach and running game coordinator.

A former defensive tackle with the New Orleans Saints, Montgomery began his coaching career in the college ranks.

Starting as a defensive tackles coach at Northern Iowa in 2006, the Los Angeles native held spots on the defensive staffs of Wyoming, Indiana, Michigan and Oklahoma. Montgomery joined the pro ranks with the Packers in 2015.

Montgomery will now join a staff on defense which beyond Mayo and Covington, has largely yet to be determined.

Earlier on Monday, former outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick was reported to have accepted the defensive coordinator position with the University of Washington.
