The Philadelphia Eagles will host the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil in 2024, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced.

The game will take place during Week 1 on Friday, Sept. 6, and the opponent will be announced before the 2024 regular-season schedule is released in the spring.

The NFL announced in December that it would have its first game in Brazil, picking the South American location over Madrid, Spain, though Madrid could still host a game as soon as 2025.

The game will take place in Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, which hosted six matches during the 2014 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

Not only will the game be the first matchup ever in Brazil, but it will also be the first game played in South America. It is also the first time since 1970 that the NFL has played a game on Friday night of Week 1.

“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint,” Goodell said in a press release.

“Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”

Along with the Eagles, the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers will play in international games in 2024.

The Bears, Vikings and Jaguars will play in London and the Panthers are set to play in Munich.

The Eagles are coming off an 11-6 season that ended with a loss in the Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—a disappointing exit given Philadelphia’s hot start to the season.

The Eagles will look to turn things around next year, starting with their matchup in Brazil.
