Breaking News: Michigan Wolverines Hire Steve clinkscale as New Defensive Coordinator…

The Michigan Wolverines won the College Football Playoff National Championship just under a month ago, but fans haven’t had a ton to celebrate since.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh officially left Michigan for the Los Angeles Chargers later in January, and the Wolverines were already facing a relatively underwhelming 2024 recruiting clas

247Sports ranks Michigan’s class as the 16th-best in the country heading into Wednesday’s opening of the regular signing period. New head coach Sherrone Moore has some work to do if he hopes to keep the Wolverines in playoff contention next seaso

Below, you’ll find a look at Michigan’s 2024 class, the top unsigned recruits to follow and a few predictions. While Michigan’s incoming recruiting class is certainly more impressive than those of most programs, it pales in comparison to those of projected title contenders such as Georgia, Alabama and Ohio Stat

According to 247Sports, the Wolverines have commitments from 18 4-star recruits but no 5-star players. Georgia, by comparison, has 247Sports’ top-ranked class and a whopping five 5-star recruit

The rival Buckeyes have gotten commitments from four 5-star recruits and 14 4-star player

None of this means that Michigan is set to fall off the proverbial map, however. Moore did a fine job as acting head coach during Harbaugh’s two 2023 suspensions, and his incoming class has some very intriguing talent

Jadyn Davis, a 4-star quarterback out of Providence Day School (Charlotte, North Carolina), for example, could become an offensive centerpiece sooner than late

“He’s got the ability to visualize what you’re saying and then athletic enough to immediately replicate it. That’s special,” Harbaugh said in December, per Alejandro Zúñiga of 247Sport

Offensive tackle Andrew Sprague of Rockhurst (Kansas City, Missouri) and running back Jordan Marshall of Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio) are among Michigan’s other 4-star signees who could make an early impac

The Wolverines are also set to add a pair of talented transfers in former 3-star interior lineman Josh Priebe and former 4-star linebacker Jaishawn Barham. Priebe and Barham are coming over from Northwestern and Maryland, respectively.Unfortunately, Michigan isn’t expected to add any more notable names during the regular signing period. According to 247Sports, the Wolverines have already signed all of the players who have committed, leaving little drama surrounding their likely addition

Burley (Burley, Idaho) wide receiver Gatlin Bair was heavily considering Michigan, but he committed to Oregon over the weeken

“I’m super excited about Oregon and what coach (Dan) Lanning is building,” Bair said, per Brandon Huffman of 247Sports. “He is one of the most ambitious coaches I’ve ever been around and they’re on track to compete in the Big Ten and win some titles

While Bair could theoretically flip his commitment in the coming days, it feels likely that Michigan has missed its last realistic chance to add another top recruit in this cycle. There are some unsigned gems out there, including 5-star athlete Terry Bussey of Timpson (Texas). However, none of them are expected to join the Wolverine

Michigan and Moore, meanwhile, appear to already be focusing on the 2025 cycle. According to CBS Sports, Michigan sent a contingent to visit 5-star defensive lineman Nathaniel Marshall of Fenwick (Oak Park, Illinois), a prime 2025 target of Harbaugh’s regim

Surprises can always occur, and Michigan may add to its roster in the coming days. However, the prediction here is that the Wolverines won’t significantly improve their 2024 .
