The Gonzaga Bulldogs are betting underdogs for just the third time this season on Saturday when they head down to Rupp Arena for a nonconference showdown against the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats.

Gonzaga (17-6, 8-2 WCC) covered its second-largest spread of the season (-28.5) its last time out in a 96-64 win over Portland on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs, led by Braden Huff’s 25 points, knocked down a season-best 15 3-pointers and held the Pilots to shoot just 35.9% from the floor.

It was the 12th game this season Gonzaga has held its opponent to shoot 44% from the floor (12-0 in those games).

The Bulldogs lead the West Coast Conference in scoring (84.7 points, 12th in NCAA Division-I) and field goal percentage (50.7%, fifth-best in the country).

They are 12-0 in games in which they score 80 or more points and 12-0 when shooting better than 50% from the field.

Defensively, Gonzaga has held opponents to less than 80 points in all but one game (San Diego State, 84).

According to covers.com, Gonzaga is 10-12 against the spread this season and 4-8 ATS in nonconference games.

It failed to cover both games in which it was the underdog — vs. Purdue (+5) and vs. UConn (+3.5), both neutral site games.

The Bulldogs haven’t won a true road game over an AP Top 25 opponent since 2019 (84-80 over No. 14 Arizona).

No. 17 Kentucky (16-6, 6-4 SEC) failed to cover the spread in four of its last six games and sits at 13-9 ATS this season.

A 109-77 win at Vanderbilt snapped a two-game losing skid for the Wildcats, who knocked down 15 3-pointers and got 24 points from Antonio Reeves in the victory.

Before that, Kentucky dropped back-to-back games to Florida (94-91) and Tennessee (103-92) last week.
