NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Bleacher Report that Reddick said he never requested a trade and “would like” to sign a contract extension with the Eagles.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday the Eagles granted Reddick permission to seek a trade.
This led to some confusion that the 29-year-old may have requested a deal out of Philadelphia.
As Schultz noted, however, the Eagles simply informed Reddick’s camp they could explore trade opportunities if they wanted to do so because he will be entering the final season of his contract in 2024.
There have been some rumblings about behind-the-scenes issues with the Eagles, though none of them seemed to involve Reddick.
A.J. Brown scrubbed all mentions of the team from his Instagram leading up to Philadelphia’s NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The star wide receiver was unable to play in that game due to a knee injury suffered in Week 18 against the New York Giants.
Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Jan. 1 that the Eagles’ locker room was fractured, and Brown was called the source of the “locker room poison.”
Brown denied the report, saying it was “bulls–t” and he didn’t talk to the media after a Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals because he “didn’t want to be negative.”
There is some optimism for the Eagles being able to get back on track next season.
They revamped the coaching staff around head coach Nick Sirianni, including hiring Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator.
Reddick would seem like the type of player Fangio would love to have. His scheme has historically been predicated on having a dominant front four that allows him to drop seven into coverage.
One of the biggest criticisms of the Eagles’ defense during their rough stretch to close the 2023 season is that Reddick was being asked to drop into coverage more frequently instead of rushing the quarterback.
