OXB DEATH UPDATE : 3 die 6 injured, after Route 12 crash Monday on Outer Banks

A young child was killed and two people were injured in a crash on the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge that occurred around 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.
According to an officer with the NC State Highway Patrol, an SUV struck from behind a Mustang that had broken down in the right lane in the eastbound direction of the bridge. A 2-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Mustang died as a result of the crash. The male driver of the Mustang received burns and is in the Intensive Care Unit at Norfolk General Hospital.
A 15-year-old girl died after a pickup truck hit her while she crossed a road on the Outer Banks, multiple news outlets reported.
The teenager was visiting the barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina when the crash happened on Saturday, March 12, the town of Nags Head said in a news release.
At about 7:30 p.m., officials said the girl tried to run to the other side of a highway. That’s when the driver of a Chevrolet Colorado reportedly ran into her.
Off-duty first responders gave CPR to the girl, who was then taken to The Outer Banks Hospital. She later died, officials said.
The teenager — who wasn’t identified in the town’s news release — was from the European country of Albania.
Nags Head officials said the crash happened on South Croatan Highway, also called U.S. Highway 158.
A Rodanthe man and two women from the Southside area of Virginia died after a head-on crash Monday morning on Route 12 on the Outer Banks.
They say the driver of a Dodge Minivan, 25-year-old Elijah Midgette, didn’t take a curve heading south and went straight into a Chevrolet SUV that was heading north. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the SUV was carrying five woman from Virginia, and the driver and driver’s side backseat passenger both died at the hospital. They were 68-year-old Carolyn Elmore, from Bracey, Virginia, and Elizabeth Sadler, of Black Ridge, Virginia.
The three other women in the SUV, ages 66, 76 and 74, were also taken to the hospital for their injuries.
Highway patrol says it’s still unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, which closed the portion of Highway 12 for more than two hours on Monday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says it happened just before 11 a.m. on Hatteras Island, 10 miles south of Nags Head City limits, near the Pea Island Visitor Center.
“While the incident is still under investigation, neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash,” the town said. “Charges are not expected to be brought against the driver.
The female driver of the SUV received minor injuries, but she has been charged with failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death. There was no impairment detected regarding the SUV driver, according to the officer.
