Return of A Legend: Wayne Bennett Announced St George illawarra Dragons Head Coach an Hour after Terminating Dolphins Contract Today…

Shane Flanagan looks set to be named as St George Illawarra’s new head coach after the club’s board voted unanimously in favour of handing the premiership winner a contract.
The move comes after Jason Ryles previously dropped out of the race at the last minute to take up a deal with the Melbourne Stor
Despite numerous reports that the former NSW and Australian prop was set to ink a four-year deal with the Dragons, news broke on May 31st that he had turned down the offer and would instead be returning to Melbourne in an assistant role
“Jason notified us this morning that he no longer wanted to be considered for the role,” Dragons CEO Ryan Webb told
It wasn’t the right time for him. We appreciate him being honest and rather find out now than in six months’ time that he didn’t feel comfortable.
“We will continue on our process with the other candidates and hopefully bring it to a head shortly.”
Flanagan, Ben Hornby, Dean Young and John Morris were then all thought to be in the running for the job, with a report from The Daily Telegraph indicating that Des Hasler had withdrawn from the race to replace Anthony Griffin.
A crucial board meeting on June 13th has helped to decide the fate of Flanagan, with The Sydney Morning Herald reporting that he was “now deemed the club’s preferred candidate after meeting with officials recently.”.tly.”.
