COWBOYS Head Coach Mike McCarthy Set To Resign And Depart From Dallas Cowboys Few Hours Ago Due To…See more

A handful of coaches won’t be in attendance for this week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy, New York Jets coach Robert Saleh and Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay all will be skipping the Scouting Combine.

While many coaches choose to be at the event in person, Florio reported that the Scouting Combine is a “major disruption” to Saleh’s offseason routine.

All of the Combine workouts will be filmed and coaches have the option to conduct 15-minute interviews via Zoom.

McCarthy won’t attend the Scouting Combine as he stays in Dallas to continue putting together the staff and change the scheme, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported Friday.

Both Saleh and McCarthy skipped the event last year, and McVay has not attended since 2020, marking a growing trend of coaches missing the Scouting Combine to focus on offseason duties.

With free agency looming and other responsibilities at home base, many coaches feel it’s best to split scouting duties.

There are also a handful of other opportunities for coaches to scout beyond to Scouting Combine, like top-30 visits and Pro Days at universities.

McCarthy has plenty to do this offseason as new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and new offensive coordinator Steve Shimko settle into their roles.

The Cowboys are coming off a successful regular season that was marred by an early playoff exit against Green Bay in the wild-card round, and McCarthy is looking for a big offseason to ensure they avoid the same fate next year.

Saleh’s Jets had a disappointing 2023 that began with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury in the first game of the season.

New York, which has the No. 10 pick in the draft, is looking to land a player that can help the Jets reach their first postseason in over a decade.

McVay and the Rams had a solid 10-7 season and were just shy of knocking off the Detroit Lions in the wild-card round, losing 24-23.

As McVay stays in Los Angeles to continue grinding through the offseason, he’s looking to put the pieces together for another Super Bowl run.
