ANNOUNCEMENT: Zach McKinstry announce his Resignation and Departure From Detroit Tigers Today

For a team with a not-very-good record, the Detroit Tigers have done some very good things this season.

The Tigers beat the Miami Marlins 5-0 on Saturday afternoon, pitching their ninth team shutout of the season.

Per ESPN Stats & Info on Twitter:

The Tigers’ 5-0 win over the Marlins this afternoon was their 9th shutout of the season.

That’s the most for a Detroit squad in a season since the 2015 team that featured Justin Verlander & David Price recorded 12 shutouts that year.

The Tigers’ performance came in a bullpen game, nonetheless. Beau Brieske threw two scoreless innings while Joey Wentz threw 4.2 innings.

Three additional relievers closed the game out over the final two innings.

Offensively, the team benefited from a three-run homer from Akil Baddoo.

After the win, the Tigers are 47-58 on the season. They remain in third place in the American League Central and appear primed to sell at the upcoming trade deadline.

Starting pitchers Michael Lorenzen and Eduardo Rodriguez are generating trade interest, per reports.

The loss was critical for Miami, as they fell to 56-49. They are 0.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the National League.

The Tigers and Marlins will finish out the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. ET. Tarik Skubal will pitch for Detroit, while Jesus Luzardo pitches for Miami.

Skubal is 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA while Luzardo is 8-5 with a 3.22.
