These five free agents may be of interest to the Detroit Lions, who are in search of an edge rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson.
It’s common knowledge that the Sure, in July Autry will turn 34. His 2023 campaign with the Tennessee T itanswas also very successful; he recorded a career-best 11.5 sacks, 50 total tackles (which is also a career high), and 12 tackles for loss. For the past four seasons, he has at least 7.5 sacks.
Autry is a valuable asset to the Lions’ pass rush in any formation, whether he lines up inside or outside the edge. Additionally, Terrell Williams, the new defensive line coach of the Lions, who coached Autry for his whole three-season tenure in Tennessee, might provide him with endorsements as a player and seasoned leader.

pass rush struggled mightily at points during the previous campaign. Aidan Hutchinson (11.5 sacks) eventually racked up sacks, but the only other player with more than three sacks was defensive tackle Alim McNeill (five sacks).
Relying only on non-Hutchinson edge rushers, such as Charles Harris, Romeo Okwara, and others, proved ineffective, while James Houston’s fractured ankle in Week 2 caused him to miss the majority of the season. Being free agents, Harris and Okwara will most likely go if little to no effort is made to retain them.
The Lions’ edge rusher group will therefore benefit from a welcome turnover and some new additions, if nothing else. It’s possible that there will be a draft pick and one or more dips into free agency. Or even a major free agency move followed by a draft selection.
When the NFL season begins next week, the Lions ought to look at all five of these free agent edge rushers.
