Report:The Giants key player is been suspended from all sports for placing a bets against….
Although Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden are on the Giants, they might use more seasoned depth.
The New York Giants made significant offseason expenditures at linebacker, which was a move that was much required given the poor linebacker performance throughout the 2022 campaign. Bobby Okereke, a former linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, got a $40 million contract with New York that includes a $21.8 million guarantee over four years.
In addition to providing stability to the position group, Okereke emerged as one of the team’s more outspoken leaders. Additionally, he contributed to the development of second-year linebacker Micah McFadden, who made significant progress the previous season.
Although New York theoretically now has two starting linebackers, they might still benefit from having more special teams and defensive depth. Just Dyontae Johnson and Darrian Beavers remain behind Okereke and McFadden as free agents; neither player has played professional defense. Isaiah Simmons, Jarrad Davis, Cam Brown, and Carter Coughlin are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents.
The Giants won’t be searching for a linebacker worthy of a starting spot in free agency again, but they probably will want to add some depth to their squad. Here are five linebacker prospects that could be available as free agents:
Not the least of the reasons to be happy about this addition is his background with Shane Bowen’s system. Al-Shaair had the highest playing time of any Titans defender in the previous campaign, with 163 total tackles in 2023. He played with DeMeco Ryans for four seasons in San Francisco before that.
The 6-foot-1, 228-pound Al-Shaair has made 362 total tackles, 20 of which have resulted in a loss, nine of which came during the previous campaign. In addition, he has 33 pressures, four sacks, two interceptions, and eleven passes defended—12 of which came into play in Bowen’s scheme. In the previous season, he also equaled Okereke for ninth in the NFL with 56 STOPs.
While Okereke only missed 12 tackles, a missed tackle rate of just 7.7%, Al-Shaair missed 22 tackles, a respectable 12.3% missed tackle rate.
