New York Yankees Flips Another Elite Buccaneers 2025 Defensive Edge.

Watch: Baker Mayfield, a free agent for the Buccaneers, practices hitting with the New York Yankees
Even though Baker Mayfield isn’t yet a Buccaneer, he continues to be active in the community and went to see the New York Yankees at spring training.
As the legal tampering period on March 11 draws near, Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent Baker Mayfield may not be formally back with the team just yet, but he’s still in the area.
Alongside Bucs offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, Mayfield attended the New York Yankees’ spring training game against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. He participated in team batting practice during that period; you can view a little clip of it below, including with him hitting a lefty, here:
While Mayfield and Wirfs were watching the game, the Yankees lost 11-5 to the Detroit Tigers, so the score wasn’t in their favor. Nevertheless, the fact that Raymond James Stadium and One Buccaneer Place are directly across the street from Steinbrenner Field indicates that Mayfield is still staying in Tampa Bay at the time even if a contract hasn’t been reached.
Mayfield has participated in batting practice previously. In addition to taking batting practice with the Milwaukee Brewers after being selected in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Mayfield also said in the team’s clubhouse that baseball was his first love.
As things stand, Mayfield and the Bucs are still working to reach a deal that would allow him to return to Tampa Bay. However, despite the likelihood of the deal happening, reports have said that the two parties are now at odds. However, we’ll have to wait and see as free agency draws near to see if he sticks around with his teammates and does other things that indicate he enjoys being here.
