Friday night’s 34-12 loss to the Roosters officially draws the curtain on any hope the Eels play finals footy in 2023 – a disappointing outcome considering the club contested a grand final last season.
The Eels are first grand finalists since the 2018 North Queensland Cowboys to miss the top eight the following season, and while Parramatta were heavily affected by injuries and suspensions to key players, coach Brad Arthur isn’t willing to make any excuses.
“I’m just disappointed with everyone involved with the club, disappointed for the players, disappointed four our members and fans but the boys tried really hard,” Arthur said after the loss to the Roosters.
There’s plenty of games there where we had our chances or we had a moment that we could have turned into something or another two or three wins.
