Will Ravens Sign “Perfect” Free Agent Chase Young?
Chase Young, the “ideal” free agent, joining the Ravens?
The Baltimore Ravens defense was among the best in the NFL the previous season, but this offseason, the group will be altered.
Mike Macdonald, the former defensive coordinator, is now the head coach in Seattle. Patrick Queen is expected to leave in free agency, while Jadeveon Clowney’s future is uncertain.
However, the Ravens still possess the core of a strong defense, and as free agency draws near, the team may even add a few seasoned players to strengthen their roster.
Chase Young, a defensive end, is the Ravens’ “perfect” free-agent signing, according to PFF.
“After franchise-tagging Justin Madubuike, the Ravens sit nearly $10 million over the salary cap,” says PFF. Despite having a limited budget, they must strengthen their group of edge defenders because Kyle Van Noy and Jadeveon Clowney are about to enter free agency. Given that he is expected to sign a one-year prove-it contract to rebuild his market the following year, Chase Young would be a viable choice.
In his first full season following an ACL tear, he played rather well, but he hasn’t yet lived up to his high draft position. Young might be the next in line for Baltimore’s lengthy tradition of offering one-year contracts to seasoned pass rushers.”
Young’s season in 2023 was a traditional tale of two halves.
He began his career with the Washington Commanders, where his prospects were uncertain because the team declined to pick up his fifth-year option. Nevertheless, he demonstrated respectable skill on the field.
Before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, Young recorded 5.0 sacks, nine quarterback hits, and six tackles for loss in his seven games (six starts). Then, as San Francisco advanced to the Super Bowl, he would play nine games for Steve Wilks’ defense, recording 2.5 sacks and displaying flashes.
But Young in Baltimore is a tempting proposition, about to enter the free agent market.
Even though Young didn’t light up the world in 2023, the Ravens have a remarkable way of bringing guys back to life. Just ask Clowney, who recorded nine tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, and 9.5 sacks, which tied his career high.
That followed a few inconsistent seasons in Cleveland, so all he needed was a change of scenery; Young might feel the same way.
With Young on one side of the defensive line and Justin Madubuike on the other, the Ravens defense is looking like a formidable one once more, which presents a daunting possibility for opposing offenses going ahead.
