A local grocery store business, Giant Eagle, and one of the collectives supporting Ohio State athletics have declared that they will continue to partner on Name, Image, and Likeness.
A new agreement between the 1870 Society and Giant Eagle will see a number of the grocery store’s products paired with Ohio State athletes. The first was the All-Big 10 defenive lineman-themed JT Tuimoloau Dandruff Shampoo.
The four Ohio State athletes featured on the “Pizza With the Bucks” frozen cheese pizza are men’s basketball players Bruce Thornton and Zed Key, all-Big 10 softball player Kami Kortokrax, and all-Big 10 women’s tennis player Sydni Ratliff.
All four of the student-athletes are featured on the pizza label. The pizza costs $7.99 and is exclusively sold at Giant Eagle locations in Ohio.
In a statement, Kortokrax stated, “Giant Eagle was where I always shopped with my parents growing up.” I will thus have to go in with my folks the first time I see the pizza there. It will be a breathtaking experience that seems unreal even now.
As a condition of the agreement, all four will provide
the product on social media and make in-store appearances, which will be revealed later.
Since student athletes were permitted to begin profiting from NIL a few years ago, Ohio State’s collectives have been among the most innovative and progressive in the NIL market. These student-athletes have been able to continue their academic pursuits and college educations while earning money thanks to fundraising efforts in the area.
