Curtis Samuel, a former wide receiver with the Washington Commanders, is inking a three-year, $24 million contract with the Buffalo Bills that could be worth up to $30 million, with $15 million guaranteed, according to a source who spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

With Gabe Davis leaving the Bills in free agency to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, Samuel makes sense to add to the group of wide receivers that already includes Stefon Diggs. Samuel will give the Bills offense a man who can run routes from a variety of locations on the field and contribute as a rusher. He had a career-high 41 rushes for 200 yards and two scores behind quarterback Brady. As the Bills continue to surround quarterback Josh Allen with quality, he adds a skill set that is not currently on the roster. He is not the deep downfield threat that Davis was for the offense.

Samuel has mostly damaged defenses underneath as a receiver, averaging 10.7 yards per catch over his career. In his third season with the Commanders, he caught 62 receptions for 613 yards and four scores in the previous year.

A sports hernia ailment that required surgery in the summer and plagued him the entire season, restricting him to five games, hampered his debut season with Washington. The following two seasons, he participated in every game but one.
