NFL Rumors: Daniel Jones’ injury worries have the New York Giants considering their options.

In the forthcoming 2024 NFL draft, the New York Giants are slated to select sixth overall. They might play wide receiver, offensive lineman, cornerback, edge rusher, or any combination of these positions. Daniel Jones already on the team, therefore there’s no way they need a quarterback. In addition to having just recovered from an ACL tear that occurred in early November of 2023, Jones’s injury concerns are concerning. So much so that in less than a month the Giants might pick a player to replace him. Jordan Raana of ESPN claims that Jones’ “history of injuries is what has the team thinking about moving forward.”

In the 2019 draft, the Giants selected the past first-round pick. As Jones began his fifth season, New York and him came to an agreement on a four-year, $160 million contract extension, notwithstanding his heroic play in the first four seasons. For a guy that didn’t contribute anything to begin with, that is a huge amount of money.

The Giants are undoubtedly concerned about his history of injuries. During free agency, the Giants signed former Seattle Seahawk Drew Lock to a $5 million, one-year contract. Lock publicly disputed Seahawks general manager John Schneider’s statements, asserting that this is Jones’ team.

Schneider stated on Seattle Sports Radio at 710 AM that Lock had been sold by the Giants on the chance to contend for the starting position in 2024. The Giants will need Lock or possibly their best young quarterback to take over in the interim as it is unknown when and if Jones will return in 2024. Brian Daboll, head coach of the Giants, made sure that Jones is the one who told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Show me, don’t tell me. In the approaching draft, we’ll see what the Giants front staff does. It should be clear to us what they are thinking if they select a quarterback with the first choice. That said, it’s okay if they choose to choose one at six or trade back for an offensive weapon. However, Jones’ injury concerns remain unabated.

Jones played for one full year, in 2022. He had to cope with neck, ankle, and hamstring ailments in the 2020 and 2021 seasons before that. Only 909 yards, two throwing touchdowns, six interceptions, and 108 completions with a 67.5% completion rate were Jones’s stats in six games in 2023.
