SAD NEWS: Center fielder Julio Rodríguez announced that he is leaving Seattle Mariners today after facing huge….

Key starter for the Seattle Mariners to start the season on the injured list with a concerning illness

The Seattle Mariners received tough news on Monday that young starting pitcher Bryan Woo will start the season on the injured list with elbow inflammation. Luckily, Seattle thinks that Woo could begin throwing again in the next 10 days.

On Monday, the Seattle Mariners were dealt some very bad news: Bryan Woo, a promising starter, will start the season on the injured list due to an elbow inflammation issue.

But according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times, Woo has escaped the worst possible situations and might start pitching shortly.

As said by Divish:

He felt unwell during his final bullpen warm-up and was unable to loosen up.

An MRI was performed on him, and the results showed no harm to the UCL repair.

According to Mariners General Manager Justin Hollander, this is comparable to Woo’s injury from last season.

It is hoped that Woo can recover from the inflammation in his elbow in 7–10 days and return to throwing if there is no structural damage.

It’s concerning that Woo’s MRI revealed no problems, but this is the second season in a row that this injury has surfaced. An early test of that depth is not ideal because Seattle has built the roster on the strength of its pitching and traded away both Robbie Ray and Marco Gonzales this offseason.

Woo, 24, went 4-5 with a 4.21 ERA in his Major League Debut season. He was called up due to injuries to Ray and Gonzales, and he pitched 87.2 scoreless innings that kept Seattle in the running for the postseason through the last weekend of the regular season.

The Mariners plan to add Emerson Hancock to the rotation in his place. He’ll be with Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Luis Castillo.

The Mariners begin play in the season at T-Mobile Park on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox.
