Australia’s exciting Indian cricket calendar is published, and a significant Ashes clue appears.

The announcement that the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy match between India and Western Australia will take place at Perth Stadium on November 22 has given the latter state of affairs a significant boost in its pursuit to become the permanent home of the opening Test match each summer.

Cricket Australia’s head of operations and scheduling, Peter Roach, revealed that several of the country’s Test players now felt there was an equal benefit to beginning the summer in Perth as there is at the Gabba, hinting at the location of the 2025 Ashes.

Australia has a strong record of playing the first Test of the summer in Brisbane, despite being upset by the West Indies at the Gabba in January.

Beginning with a 1988 defeat to the West Indies, Australia has won all but two of the first Test matches at the Gabba when the series began in Queensland, but it has lost its last two red ball games played there later in the summer.
