After breaking his hand in the win over the Rockies, Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell will start the season on IL.

WSAU, MILWAUKEE, WI One of the Milwaukee Brewers’ best players will miss the entirety of the 2024 campaign due to an injury sustained on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.

According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Garrett Mitchell’s hand swelling persisted during yesterday’s game, prompting the need for an X-ray. Soon later, Mitchell’s manager Pat Murphy informed the media that the injury to his left hand was a fracture that might take one to two months to heal.

Mitchell sustained a torn labrum in his left shoulder while trying to avoid a tag against the Seattle Mariners in April of last year, which caused him to miss five months of the 2023 season. This injury is his most recent one.

Murphy responded, “Not going to think about it,” to a question from the media about how this will effect the squad on opening day. We’re not going to obsess about what we lack. Consider what we already have. Someone will take the initiative. I’m sorry for the athletes. Although it appears that we are shorthanded, I have faith in the organization. That’s the only thing involved.

It was anticipated that Mitchell would start for Milwaukee against the Mets on Thursday. However, until Mitchell is cleared to play again, the organization may need to rely on prospects like Sal Frelick or Joey Weimer.
