Three former Cleveland Browns players that did not succeed in 2023 with their new team

For the Cleveland Browns, with all of the attention focused on the present, it might occasionally be beneficial to reflect on the previous season.

The Browns have lost a number of big players to other teams during the 2024 free agency period, including Sione Takitaki, Jordan Elliott, Joe Flacco, and Harrison Bryant. However, some people are still having problems getting employment.

The Browns also saw a number of players depart for other clubs during the previous season. However, not all of them were successful in their new roles.

Particularly, three did not have the best of seasons with their new team the previous one.

Greedy Williams, a former LSU standout and second-round selection in 2019, entered the league as one of the best corners in his class. To be honest, it was a bit of a surprise when he lost in the second round. Williams’s debut season ended with him missing 12 games due to injury. After missing all of 2020 due to injury, he would go on to play in 16 games in 2021 and record some impressive stats in Year 3.

Subsequently, he missed some time in 2022 due to a hamstring injury, which prevented him from being the Cleveland starter he had hoped to be. He signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2023, but was let go in August.

Williams was not active during the previous NFL season.

D’Ernest Johnson’s decline was rapid and severe.
Some of us once believed that D’Ernest Johnson would have become Nick Chubb’s replacement when he eventually decided to hang up his jersey or when his contract expired. Johnson carried it a healthy 100 times for 534 yards and three touchdowns back in 2021. Johnson ran the Browns hard and with a vengeance. However, he saw a sharp decline in playing time in 2022, and he went Johnson only carried the ball 41 times in 2023, gaining 108 yards on average (only 2.6 yards per run). He is still playing for the Jaguars right now, supporting Travis E’Tienne. However, it appears that his days of being a possible starter are over.

The course of Chase Winovich’s career has not been easy.
Chase Winovich, a former third-round selection in New England, seemed to be one of those traditional players you loved to have on your team—someone who could will his way to the quarterback. Winovich signed with the Browns in 2022 after spending three years with the Patriots, where he amassed 11.0 sacks. In eight games, he managed just 1.0 sack.

He only appeared in three Miami Dolphins games the previous season. For a significant portion of the season, injuries were a worry, but even when healthy, he wasn’t very active.
