To fill the vacuum left by Greg Scruggs’ retirement as defensive coordinator, Michigan has hired Lou Esposito, a former defensive coordinator at Western Michigan.
Before taking a position as co-defensive coordinator at Memphis this offseason, Esposito served as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at WMU from 2017 to 2023. He takes over for Scruggs, who resigned on March 21 after being charged with operating a car while inebriated.
Coach Sherrone Moore released a statement, stating, “Lou is a great defensive mind that has developed outstanding players and produced top units at the line of scrimmage throughout his coaching career.” “The young men in our program will greatly benefit from him as a mentor and asset.”
