ESPN REPORT: Christopher Lee Mack Announced That He Is Leaving Louisville Cardinals men’s basketbal today after significant issue in the team….
Following the departure of Pat Kelsey, the men’s coach at College of Charleston, who took a job with the Cardinals last week, the university has hired Chris Mack, a former coach at Louisville.
Matt Roberts, the athletic director, said on Tuesday that Mack has accepted a five-year contract to take over the team.
Mack spent 12 complete seasons as a coach at Xavier and Louisville, and he made the NCAA Tournament nine times. Mack was fired by the Cardinals in January 2022 after just six games played (6-8). Louisville had suspended Mack for the first six games of the season on the grounds that he had fired former Cardinals assistant coach Dino Gaudio in violation of school policy.
Since then, Mack has stopped coaching.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be the next men’s basketball head coach at the College of Charleston,” Mack stated in a press release. “I’m more motivated than any coach in the country, and Cougar Nation is going to get my absolute best.”
Under Kelsey, the Cougars won the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament the previous two years. They were defeated 109-96 by Final Four-bound Alabama in the first round.
Social media user Kelsey referred to it as a “great day for the College of Charleston as a new era arrives.” Mack and Kelsey have been friends for a lifetime, according to Kelsey, “I know the city will adore him.” He is an excellent connector and basketball coach.”
According to Roberts, administrators were looking for a winner who could share their vision for championship basketball. “Chris Mack will undoubtedly continue the high level of success that our students, alumni, donors and community deserve,” he stated.
During two weeks of the 2019–20 season, Mack and Louisville, who finished 24–7 and 15–5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, were ranked first.
Mack’s teams at Xavier advanced to four Sweet 16s and the Elite Eight in 2017.
