Unlikely as Boston Celtics Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced super-star….
Derrick White’s $500K bonus for achieving this improbable goal first aired on NBC Sports Boston.
Due to his development into a superb 3-point shooter, Boston Celtics guard Derrick White has received a large bonus payout.
For the 2023–24 NBA season, White had an incentive clause in his contract that said he would receive an additional $500,000 if he made 185 or more 3-pointers. In Monday night’s victory over the Charlotte Hornets, the seasoned guard made 4 of 10 3-pointers, bringing his season total to 188 points and clearing the threshold for the $500K bonus.
As stated in a post on X by ESPN’s Bobby Marks, “Because the bonus was deemed unlikely before the season, Boston will have an additional $500K charged toward their team salary.” Marks also mentioned that White will have a $20,071,429 cap hit for the 2024–25 season.
One of White’s main complaints upon joining the Celtics in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs prior to the 2022 trade deadline was his three-point shooting. In San Antonio, he hit 3-pointers at a percentage of 34.4, never making more than 84 in a single season.
With the Celtics, White’s shooting has significantly improved. In his more than three seasons with the C’s, he has made 38.2 percent of his 3-pointers; his 40.1 percent mark this season would be a career high. In 60 fewer games, he made 71 more 3-pointers with the Celtics than he did with the Spurs (371 total).
