Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, a former forward for Louisville, has announced his transfer destination.
This offseason, Huntley-Hatfield is the second former Cardinal to reveal his transfer destination.
LOUISVILLE, KY: Another alum of the men’s basketball program at the University of Louisville has made a new home.
Moving forward On Thursday, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield declared his commitment to Kevin Keatts and NC State. Earlier in the week, Huntley-Hatfield listed the Cardinals as one of his top four transfer destinations, indicating that he was open to returning to the team.
Huntley-Hatfield has joined guard Skyy Clark, who declared his transfer to UCLA on Wednesday, as the second former Cardinal to make public his transfer destination.
Eleven Louisville players, including Huntley-Hatfield, used the transfer portal after second-year head coach Kenny Payne was fired on March 13. Due to a significant number of portal defections, Louisville will have no scholarship return players in 2024–25.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward was perhaps Louisville’s best player from the 2023–24 campaign and one of just two players to start all 32 games for the Tigers this past season. With 12.9 points per game, Huntley-Hatfield was the Cardinals’ second-leading scorer after Skyy Clark. He also led the club in rebounds (8.4 per game) and led the team in shooting (56.7 percent) during the game.
Following his year as a true freshman at Tennessee, the native of Clarksville, Tennessee, and former five-star Prospect moved to Louisville prior to the 2022–2023 season after Kenny Payne was appointed head coach. Huntley-Hatfield averaged 6.7 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game while playing in 24 games, 21 of which she started.
Only walk-on guard Hercy Miller from the previous campaign is expected to return for Louisville, so new head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have made a quick start in the recruiting process. Reyne Smith and James Scott, who both attended Charleston and played for Kelsey, have committed to transfer to the Cardinals during the previous six days. Terrence Edwards Jr., a 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year and former James Madison standout, has also committed.
