LOUISVILLE, KY: Officially, transfer portal season has begun.

College basketball players have until May 1 to formally enter the portal as of March 18, which is the first day of the 45-day transfer window.

The Louisville Cardinals anticipate a great deal of movement in terms of players departing and players choosing to join the program, especially since the program fired second-year head coach Kenny Payne and hired Charleston’s Pat Kelsey to take the helm.

This past season, one of the Cougars’ best players was the 6-foot-2, 190-pound two-guard. He started 28 games and participated in all 35 for Charleston, where he led the team in scoring (12.8 points per game) in addition to grabbing 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. For his efforts, he was named to the All-CAA Second Team.

Smith is an expert at three-point shooting, making 39.4% of his attempts from beyond the arc and 41.0 percent of his total field goals. In the previous season, he made 133 field goals, including 284 three-pointers out of 324 tries.

In each of his three collegiate seasons, the Australian native from Ulverstone has been a productive player. Smith has made 89 starts in 102 career games with Charleston tallied 1,212 points, 192 rebounds, 149 assists, 294 three-pointers made, and 68 steals.

This past season, the 6-foot-11, 210-pound big man was a consistent rotational contributor for the Cougars. In just 16.1 minutes per game, Scott averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks while starting four of the 35 games he played in. He also led the team in field goal percentage at an incredible 79.2 percent. He scored in double figures six times, won the CAA Rookie of the Week award twice, and was selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

Several NBA scouts have already taken notice of Scott’s skills during his rookie season. An unnamed scout gushed over Scott in a report published by the Post & Courier earlier this month, stating that “his length, his athleticism, and his footwork are exactly what NBA teams are looking for.” searching in the modern era.”

Upon graduating from high school, the Fayetteville, North Carolina, prospect was considered a three-star. According to 247Sports’ internal rankings, Scott was the 38th best center in the Class of 2023 and the seventh best player in the state of North Carolina.
