The star from Mission Viejo, California, recently returned from a practice trip to Athens.

Georgia is targeting wide receivers in the 2025 recruiting class both domestically and abroad.

Phillip Bell is one name in the national net category that has recently gained popularity with Georgia. Earlier last week, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide receiver from Mission Viejo, California, visited Athens for a spring practice. That trip was also when he planned his formal return.

The seasoned receiver aims to contribute more to the offense this fall after overcoming some drop difficulties.

Wide receiver Arian Smith of Georgia was plagued by drops during his 2023 season, which prevented him from having the junior year he had anticipated for and left him with a limited impact on the Bulldogs’ offense. Smith has been working hard to get back on track by 2024, and the preliminary findings seem to support that ambition.

Coming off a scrimmage in which he developed a big reception for the Georgia offense, Smith has received a lot of accolades this spring. The rising senior has shown development in all areas as he gets ready for another season, but he still has a ways to go before he can be considered one of the Bulldogs’ go-to receivers.

Smith had receptions in three of Georgia’s first four games of the previous season before dropping passes, which resulted in a reduced role later in the season. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith dropped three passes in 2023, ranking second on the team only to Dominic Lovett (4). This contributed to a streak of seven games during which he failed to catch a pass.

With two catches against Georgia Tech near the end of the regular season, Smith made a comeback to the field. Smith’s 12-yard touchdown reception versus Florida State in the Orange Bowl sealed the season. He had eight receptions for 153 yards and two scores at the end of the season.

After last year, Smith has every right to be disappointed in himself, but Lovett stressed that Smith hasn’t acted in that way. Lovett noted that Smith has carried himself well on the field in spring, which appears to be beneficial as the seasoned receiver aspires to be a key member of the offense.

“I would say that he is the room’s shining light—always upbeat, cheerful, and prepared for practice. He’s really the spark plug that ignites the flame for the rest of us, I think stated Lovett. “I think that’s the largest thing I’ve seen him do. In addition, he has assumed the job of the room’s leader. That’s most likely the primary issue.

In the Bulldogs’ opening scrimmage of spring practice last week, Smith made a huge catch to maintain the positive momentum. While acknowledging that Smith made a play, Smart stressed that the defense committed a bust and that it’s not always easy to determine if the offensive player initiated the play or just took advantage of a defensive blunder.

Smith has made some huge plays this spring, but Smart pointed out that he has also squandered opportunities on intermediate and deep routes, which he probably wishes he had not missed. Still, Smart is pleased with what he’s observed.out of the seasoned receiver, who keeps giving it his all to be ready for another season as a potent deep threat.
