He is back: Johni Broome Auburn tiger star player is coming back to the plains.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, in Auburn, during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game, Auburn forward Johni Broome (4) slam dunks the ball over South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson (5).

WBRC AUBURN, AL – Fans of the Auburn Tigers have good news. Johni Broome, a great power forward/center for the Tigers, is coming back to the plains!

On their X pages on Wednesday afternoon, Auburn and Broome announced his plans to return to the university.

Before moving to Auburn, Broome played his first two years of college ball at Morehead State in Kentucky. Throughout his two seasons with the Eagles, Broome was a standout player. During his rookie campaign, Broome won the OVC tournament, made it to the NCAA tournament, and was selected First Team All-OVC and OVC Freshman of the Year. He was also voted Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week nine times.

In addition to being chosen to the First Team All-OVC, Broome received two more honors as a sophomore: OVC Defensive Player of the Year and 16.8 PPG, 10.5 RPG, and 3.9 BPG.

After joining the Tigers for the 2022–2023 season, Broome had an immediate effect on the plains. Broome averaged 14.2 points per game and started all 33 of the Tigers’ games. He was selected to the All-SEC second team. In the 2023–2024 campaign, Broome once more had a significant influence on the field for Auburn, scoring 16.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds in order to help the Tigers win the 2024 SEC tournament.

Broome was the MVP of the SEC Tournament, a member of the 2024 SEC All-Defensive Team, first-team All-SEC, and third-team All-American.
