HUGE SET-BACK TO DETROIT LIONS: wide receiver Jameson Williams enter transfer portal today….

Before the draft, Jameson Williams is under intense pressure from a Yahoo! analyst, who believes he still has a lot to prove.

Jameson Williams, a wide receiver with the Detroit Lions, had a definite breakthrough towards the end of the previous campaign. He saw a lot of playing time, never missed a pass for extended periods of time, and generally looked smart in every way. Though they didn’t always present themselves, his contributions were always significant when they did.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell outlined his expectations for Williams’ ongoing development as he looks forward to his third season.

“By the end of the season, we felt that he had truly come into his own,” Campbell said. “He progressed and when he was able to come back off, when we got him week four of the season after he had the suspension, all we asked of him was growth.” He will now make an effort to start every game. And that’s the objective we have set.”

Williams, whether or if he is geared toward fantasy football, will be on many lists of 2024 breakthrough prospects. In terms of fantasy football, the concern is if the target volume will be present to support a full-fledged third-year breakout, even in a bigger role from the start of the next season.

Williams has a lot of hope, but there’s He still has a lot of optimism and projection in his view. The Lions may be considering wide receivers in the next draft; if and where they select one indicates how much they believe in Williams.

Yahoo! expert Matt Harmon recently released a list of seasoned players who might be moved aside by a rookie, putting Jameson Williams on notice ahead of the draft. It’s a little fantasy-oriented, but for the most part, it makes sense.

Harmon wrote the following, and Williams was on the list.

“The Lions have complete faith in their former first-round wide receiver, they will tell everyone who would listen. However, Jameson Williams’ career thus far does not present him as a dependable performer. After Josh Reynolds’ departure, it would be difficult to blame them if they don’t want to start the season with him as their uncontested WR2 behind Amon-Ra St Brown.”

“The Lions certainly have more pressing needs, so it wouldn’t be shocking if they selected a pure perimeter receiver with the 29th overall pick. But even a rookie on Day 2 who could compete for playing time would provide a challenge to Williams’ projected target score. There’s not much room for him.

for error given that, in the best of circumstances, he will always rank fifth on the team in terms of pure opportunities, behind Sam LaPorta, St. Brown, and the running back tandem.”

It’s difficult to see the Lions deliberately stealing Williams’ position by selecting a wide receiver with significant selection money. Even yet, given his lack of experience and the fact that Amon-Ra St. Brown isn’t the only unknown on the wide receiver depth chart, it’s not completely out of the question.
