Very Sad Departures: 5-Top Scorers Announce they’re Leaving…

Grace VanSlooten, Chance Gray and Kennedy Basham, three of Oregon’s top five scorers, announced Wednesday they are entering the transfer portal, following its worst season in the Kelly Graves’ era.

The trio of sophomores announced via social media over about a half an hour span Wednesday morning that they would look to potentially depart Oregon.

VanSlooten and Gray averaged a combined 28.9 points per game. Basham averaged 4.5 per game.

The Ducks lost their final 14 games and finished the year 11-21 and 2-16 in Pac-12 play this spring, including a 49-point blowout defeat to Colorado in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament March 6 — the biggest defeat in the tournament’s history.

VanSlooten, Gray, and Basham were touted recruits, with VanSlooten and Gray former five-star prospects.

Gray, tasked with handling point guard duties after transfer guard Peyton Scott was lost for the year due to an ACL injury, averaged 13.9 points and three assists per game.

VanSlooten led the Ducks, averaing 15 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds. VanSlooten and Gray started all but one game for the Ducks while Basham started in 24

After reserve guard Priscilla Williams entered the portal earlier in the week, the Ducks are left with Phillipina Kyei, Sofia Bell, Sarah Rambus, Sammie Wagner and Filippa Tilliander as holdovers from a season ago, while Scott looks to get a hardship waiver to play a sixth season after her injury.
