SAD NEWS: Formal star Pat White and Pat McAfee drop a shocking social message to fans/team today….
Past West Virginia standouts Pat White and McAfee have been designated honorary coaches for the 2024 Spring Game.
In Saturday’s WVU Gold-Blue Spring Football Game, two West Virginia Mountaineer greats will be on the sidelines as honorary coaches once more.
Quarterback Pat White and former kicker/punter Pat McAfee will lead the Gold and Blue teams in Morgantown, respectively. During the four seasons from 2005 to 2008, which was the program’s pinnacle, McAfee and White led the Mountaineer football team to an overall record of 42-9.
WVU would go 4-0 in playoff play during this time, winning two BCS Bowls and two Big East titles in the process. Both players would be selected in the NFL draft; McAfee, in particular, would go on to become one of WVU’s most successful late-round picks and a well-known NFL specialist.
Hopefully, the two will draw more attention to the action on Saturday in Morgantown. While McAfee is a well-known and respected sports media expert who works with College Gameday and hosts The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN and YouTube, White is an NFL offensive assistant with the Los Angeles Chargers. Additionally, he appears on Monday Night Raw programming as a color commentator for the professional wrestling promotion WWE.
The Spring Game this year will be a four-quarter match between the Gold and Blue teams, with different speciality contests, drills, and ceremonies sandwiched in between the quarters.
Kickoff at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday for those who wish to attend the game in person. The gates open at 11 a.m., with free admission. Fans must hit this page in order to claim a ticket. It is requested that attendees claim and download their tickets to their mobile wallet before to arriving at the stadium, as all tickets will be distributed via mobile delivery. At the time of checkout, those who are claiming tickets are also encouraged to donate to WVU Medicine Children’s.
Huey Mack, a resident of Morgantown, will perform at the Almost Heaven Village Kickoff Concert to kick off the festivities early. The event is scheduled to take place between the Light Blue and Teal parking lots on the East Side of Milan Puskar Stadium from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Big 12 Now, an ESPN+ site, will stream the game live for those who wish to watch the action at home. Television coverage of the Mountaineer GameDay Gold-Blue pregame show will begin at 11 a.m. on local Nexstar stations and AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh. Learfield’s Mountaineer Sports Network is another source of radio coverage.
