JJ Redick will get the chance to interview for the vacant Hornets head coaching job, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday night.
The former Duke star and NBA veteran has hosted the highly popular basketball podcast “The Old Man and the Three” and in March he launched a second podcast with LeBron James called “Mind the Game.”
He retired from the NBA after a 15-year career in 2021 that took him to Orlando for seven years as well as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New Orleans Milwaukee and Dallas
Redick scored more than 12,000 points during his NBA career and had his number retired at Duke following his college career.
Redick has served as an analyst for ESPN since he stepped away from the game and was elevated to the network’s No. 1 broadcast team with Mike Breen and Doris Burke this season after Doc Rivers left to take the head coaching position with the Bucks.
This would be Redick’s second go around attempting to land a coaching gig in the NBA after he interviewed for the Raptors coaching job last year.
Redick’s basketball knowledge is widely respected across the league.
The Hornets are in the midst of a coaching search after Steve Clifford resigned at the end of the season in order to transition into a front-office role with the team.
