Breaking news: Quarterback Dontez Fagan of West Virginia Mountaineers has terminated his employment with the team following a background debate with management over…..
Dontez Fagan, a former defensive back for Charlotte, revealed this weekend that he will be joining the West Virginia football team for the 2024 season, marking the team’s first commitment since the spring transfer portal window opened. Following a thrilling Gold-Blue Spring Game on Saturday, the pledge was made.
Fagan came to Morgantown from modest beginnings, having played Division 2 football for Central Oklahoma. Following a redshirt season in 2019 and a season missed because of COVID-19 in 2020, he was a key member of the team in 2021.
From there, he played JUCO ball for Independence Community College in 2022 and was rated as a two-star talent before receiving an invitation to play Division 1 ball for Charlotte last season. He had a spectacular 2023 season with the 49ers, recording 21 tackles, forcing four pass breakups, and recording one interception. You can watch him get that takeaway against South Florida in this ESPN footage.
Film analysis reveals Fagan’s natural ability to make athletic plays with the ball in midair, diving to deflect passes and snagging an interception after trailing a receiver in coverage by a short distance. In addition, he shows a knack for staying on task until the whistle blows and at reacting quickly to run plays and short passes.
