Washington Commanders

ANNOUNCEMENT: OF Marcus Mariota announcement that he is leaving Washington Commanders Now another significant issue for team…..

The Washington Commanders reportedly weren’t considering North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.

“The two quarterbacks they had in consideration at No. 2 were Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Monday during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “Maye wasn’t going No. 2. He was going No. 3 to New England.

Washington ultimately chose Daniels, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU. And it was apparently an easy decision for the organization.

“We knew it was Jayden for a while, and it would’ve taken a lot for it to not be Jayden,” general manager Adam Peters told reporters on Thursday. “It was the building. The whole building was in.”

Maye, of course, ended up going No. 3 overall to the New England Patriots.

And given Caleb Williams appeared to be a no-brainer for the Chicago Bears and Washington was quickly sold on Daniels, that was as high as the former Tar Heel was ever going to go.

The pressure is real for first-year general manager Adam Peters as he’s been entrusted by managing partner Josh Harris and the rest of the Washington Commanders ownership group to lead the franchise into a new era of winning football.

So far, most everyone is giving Peters and the Commanders high marks after hiring Dan Quinn as the head coach, fleshing out a top-notch staff, and even for the long list of free agent moves the team made leading up to the NFL Draft.
