Steve Forbes has found his point guard for next season in Louisville transfer Ty-Laur Johnson.

As a freshman, Johnson played 23 minutes per game for the Cardinals, averaging 8.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He has some room for improvement as a shooter, as he shot just 37% from the floor and 19% from beyond the arc last season. He is a very good shooter from the free throw line at 82%, however, so there is a chance that his shooting numbers are more of a reflection of just how bad Louisville was last season under Kenny Payne (8-24). Under a better coach like Steve Forbes, who has a history of developing point guard into All-ACC caliber players, Johnson could improve drastically in very short period.

Regardless of shooting, the Deacs are adding a player who, as a freshman, would have led Wake last season in assists and steals. He was a 4-star recruit coming out of high school just a year ago and was rated as the 80th best player in the 2023 class. As he has played just 1 season, he will have 3 years of eligibility remaining. Johnson should give the Deacs a distributor at the point guard position who can make all the guys around him better.
