SAD NEWS: Oklahoma Sooners announced that Jackson Arnold is Leaving immediately after Facing…..

Spring Football has come and gone for the Oklahoma Sooners. Summer is approaching and late August brings the beginning of the 2024 college football season.

But with still two and a half months until games begin, let’s take a dive into the OU offense heading into the season, using just three words to describe each position group.

It’s year three of the Brent Venables era in Norman, and the Sooners are entering year one in the SEC.

The offense had some consistency issues in 2023, but was a strong unit overall that ended up averaging over 40 points per game.

This led to former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby being hired to be the next head coach at Mississippi State.

Venables promoted from within and tabbed Seth Littrell and Joe Jon Finley as co-offensive coordinators to replace Lebby.

Littrell is expected to be the primary play-caller.

But in this day and age of college football, coaching staff changes aren’t the only kind of movement taking place anymore.

Recruiting and the transfer portal change the roster from year to year and month to month.

Exactly three words can be used to sum up each offensive position group at Oklahoma, as the roster should be mostly set heading into week one.

Dillon Gabriel started under center for the last two years at Oklahoma, but he transferred to Oregon for his final year of college football.

That’s because it’s Jackson Arnold’s time to step into the spotlight for the Sooners, and he’s hailed as the next great OU quarterback.

The former five-star prospect from Denton Guyer waited his turn in 2023, but the plan all along seemed to be to get Arnold on the field as the starter beginning in 2024.

Arnold was the Gatorade National Player of the Year in his senior year of high school and won the Elite 11 competition.

He played sparingly last season, with most of his action coming in the second half against BYU and the bowl game against Arizona.

There’s no question Arnold has the talent to be a great college quarterback, and his personality fits the culture that Venables is building at OU.

The rest of the quarterback room has reshuffled this offseason and Arnold is tasked with taking on a bigger leadership role.

Behind him will be Casey Thompson, Michael Hawkins Jr. and Brendan Zurbrugg.

It’ll be up to quarterbacks coach Seth Littrell to continue Arnold’s development and put the true sophomore in positions to succeed in his first year as the full-time starter.
