Breaking news Bruins-Maple Leafs Game 7: X factors, preview, predictions now…….

NEW DELHI: The Boston Bruins have made a decision regarding 19-year-old rookie Matthew Poitras. The team had until Tuesday to determine whether Poitras would continue to be part of the NHL club beyond nine games, thus initiating the first year of his entry-level contract, or return to the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm.

Poitras, who was a second-round draft selection by Boston in 2022, has made a significant impact in his nine-game stint with the Bruins, tallying three goals and accumulating five points.

His presence has been crucial for the team, particularly in the center position, given the absence of retired veteran players Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. Poitras has consistently played on the second line but offers versatility and can be deployed in various roles as required.

The young Toronto-area native has quickly won the admiration of his teammates. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy highlighted one key aspect in which Poitras has excelled, saying, “I think that’s been the biggest thing is his confidence with the puck. We’ve played a lot of teams here to start that play a man-on-man style.

So tonight, you saw him tons of times just feel really confident with the puck, wherever he is in the offensive zone — whether he’s going to carry it, he’s going to hold it, protect it and wait until he sees a good play. That’s super impressive.”

Following a practice session on Tuesday, Bruins’ coach Jim Montgomery promptly provided an update on Poitras’ status, stating, “He’s sticking around.

He just belongs.” While this decision keeps Poitras in Boston for now, Montgomery hinted that the young talent might not necessarily stay with the team for the entire season.
