Despite he’s leaving Alabama Crimson Tide today ‘Disappointment will be on Kalen DeBoer

Despite stepping away from his post as Alabama’s head coach in January, Nick Saban continues to be in the thick of the ever-changing world of college football, which looks vastly different than it did when he got his start in the sport.

On Thursday evening as Saban filed into room at Montgomery’s Renaissance Hotel for a brief meeting with reporters ahead of his appearance as the keynote speaker of this year’s Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament, Saban was again asked about the challenges facing the college sports landscape.

Saban was quick to remind reporters that he wasn’t there to talk college football, but rather talk about the purpose of the event, which will see 60 college scholarships be awarded to “deserving college students who attend colleges and universities all over the nation” Thursday night.

But then Saban continued, identifying what he believes to be the first order of business when it comes to addressing the current college football landscape.

“The No. 1 thing we need to do in college football is, the first thing we’ve gotta do is address all the lawsuits because the lawsuits may break the NCAA and it may break college football, so that should be the first order of business,” Saban said.

On May 1, Florida, New York and the District of Columbia joined Tennessee and Virginia in a lawsuit filed against the NCAA.

The lawsuit alleges the NCAA is in violation of U.S.

antitrust law as it prohibits students who are in the process of their recruitment from negotiating deals with third parties such as NIL collectives.

And that lawsuit is just one of many currently facing the governing body of collegiate sports.
