Texas Longhorns have made a smart move to secure an-other talented QB specialist….
The Texas Longhorns a season ago made it to the College Football Playoff as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Texas lost to the Pac-12 Champions, the Washington Huskies, in the semifinals. The Longhorns, this season, will be moving from the Big-12 to the SEC.
Texas will need to be ready to compete in a very tough conference, but head coach Steve Sarkisian is no stranger to the SEC, He was the offensive coordinator with the Alabama Crimson Tide under Nick Saban before he took the Texas Longhorns position.
Jeff Mezydlo of thinks that they are the second-best team in the country entering the 2024 college football season. The reasoning he gave as to why he has the Texas Longhorns ranked this high is as follows
“With a trip to the CFP to build on and quarterback Quinn Ewers (64.3 completion percentage, 5,656 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, 12 interceptions in 22 career games) back in the fold, the Longhorns again have lofty expectations for 2024. Yes, there likely will be holes to fill on both the defensive line and for those receiving targets. Yes, they will be playing in the SEC, so the competition will stiffen (there’s also a Sept. 7 stop at Michigan). However, Texas will be among the 12 best teams in the nation next season when anything can happen.”
Quinn Ewers is going to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football next season. He can very well be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ewers will have another season to develop at the quarterback position.
Isaiah Gold, Matthew Bond, and Silas Bolden are projected to be the starting wide receivers for the Texas Longhorns. They will need to replace the production of Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, and Jordan Whittington a season ago.
A player to potentially watch for is sophomore Johtnay Cook II and true freshman Ryan Wingo. Cook II caught eight passes for 136 yards receiving and zero touchdowns last season. He also averaged 17.0 yards per catch. The offense should not be a problem this season for the Texas Longhorns because they will be able to reload. The Georgia Bulldogs will probably be the number-one team in the country to start the season.
