“I HAVE MADE MY DECISION”: Louisville Cardinals star set to leave as contract decision made….
Miami has added another elite talent to its loaded spring transfer portal haul.
On Tuesday evening, Miami landed a pledge from highly-touted EDGE Tyler Baron. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder is considered the No. 72 overall player and No. 10 EDGE rusher in the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings. He was also considering USC, Ole Miss, and LSU during what became an intense battle for Baron’s services.
After spending four years at Tennessee, Baron transferred to Louisville in the winter transfer portal window after exploring opportunities at Ole Miss, Alabama, and Texas. After sitting out of spring football with the Cardinals while nursing a shoulder injury, Baron re-entered the transfer portal and is now headed down to South Florida to continue his college career just a couple of weeks after taking an official visit to Miami.
In 2023, Baron had his most productive season at the college level, generating 28 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks. Pro Football Focus credited Baron with 41 quarterback pressures. Those 41 pressures ranked seventh most amongst SEC pass rushers last fall. To put that number in perspective, Rueben Bain was credited with 45 quarterback pressures during his strong 2023 true freshman season.
Over the course of his career, Baron has accumulated 105 quarterback pressures.
Baron has also become strong against the run over the course of his college career. Pro Football Focus graded Baron’s run defense efforts at 72.0 in 2023 and 77.3 in 2022. He also improved his tackling consistency in 2023, with PFF crediting him with only two missed tackles for the entire year.
Jason Taylor and Miami now roster one of the best defensive end rooms in the country with Baron joining Bain, Akheem Mesidor, and Marshall transfer Elijah Alston expected to make up the four top players at the position. Collectively, the group has 316 career quarterback pressures to their name.
Baron also adds another big time defensive lineman to the room after the program added Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr. earlier this month.
The addition of Baron is transfer commitment No. 15 for the program across both cycles and pushes the Hurricanes into the top ten of the 247Sports Transfer Rankings. He becomes the fourth Top 100 transfer talent to join the program this off-season alongside quarterback Cam Ward, Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, and Houston wide receiver Sam Brown.
