Advertisement Obed McCoy, a left-arm fast bowler, will take Holder’s spot in the World Cup roster, according to Cricket West Indies (CWI). Holder was the captain of the Test and ODI teams.

“Jason is a skilled member of our team. There’s little doubt that his absence will be felt on and off the field. Lead selector Desmond Haynes expressed his excitement about soon having a fully fit Jason back with them.

Although losing a player of Jason’s ability is regrettable, we have faith in Obed McCoy’s abilities. Obed has performed with amazing skill and promise, and this will be his chance to further display his abilities on a global platform. We think he’ll infuse the team with new, vibrant energy,” Haynes remarked.

McCoy is presently participating in the three-match T20I series between the West Indies and South Africa in Kingston.

In addition to frequently playing for the West Indies T20 team and representing the Windward Islands in regional Caribbean cricket, McCoy, 27, has also participated in Indian Premier League franchise cricket.

“I think I worked hard enough throughout the year and I think it is well deserved, so I just have to keep better each game,” McCoy stated.

Although Holder’s injury was not disclosed by CWI, it was thought to have been sustained while playing county cricket for Worcestershire.

The five backup players chosen for the World Cup roster of 15—Kyle Mayers, Matthew Forde, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, and Andre Fletcher—were also revealed by CWI.

Along with Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, and New Zealand, the West Indies are in Group C of the World Cup.
