HEART BREAK NEWS: Cody Schrader officially announce his Resignation and Departure From San Francisco 49ers today due to………READ MORE.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported Monday that Thomas and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a one-year deal. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo initially reported the two sides were “working to finalize a deal.”

Thomas played the last four seasons on the Washington Commanders and has previous stops with the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. He actually entered the league as a quarterback out of Virginia Tech.

Arizona selected him with a fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft, but he never established himself as a signal-caller at the sport’s highest level. He eventually switched to tight end and made his first career catch in 2017 as a member of the Bills.

He is now joining a loaded 49ers roster and won’t be one of the top options for quarterback Brock Purdy.

George Kittle will be the primary tight end, while Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings will likely see more chances as well. However, that will also create opportunities for Thomas to exploit when he is on the field.

He will surely never be the focal point for opposing defenses and should have favorable matchups. He can use his height at 6’6″ and athleticism to beat linebackers and safeties in single-coverage situations.

The end result could be a career-high in touchdowns even if he isn’t a go-to option in the offense.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers’ search for George Kittle insurance has led them to eight-year veteran Logan Thomas.

The Niners and Thomas agreed to terms on a one-year deal Monday, a source told ESPN. Thomas gives the Niners the veteran tight end option behind Kittle they have been seeking for most of the offseason after losing Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.

Thomas comes to San Francisco from the Washington Commanders, where he spent the past four seasons, including a breakout 2020 in which he had 72 receptions for 670 yards and six touchdowns.
