The Chicago Bears have wrapped up their mandatory minicamp, and the veteran players are all scattering for their summer break before training camp gets underway in July.
To talk about how the offseason program went, we spoke with Zack Pearson of The Bear Report. We asked Zack to give us his observations from OTAs and minicamp, not just on Caleb Williams, but on the new pass catching options, the offensive and defensive line as well as the new and improved Matt Eberflus!
We asked Zack if there were any differences seeing Williams throw a practice ball compared to Mitch Trubisky or Justin Fields and his answer was interesting.
“He looks more natural from the start,” Pearson stated. “Everything with the throwing motion, the touch, the accuracy, the drop back, just how smooth it all is for Caleb Williams. With Fields, you’d see the flashes in these minicamps and training camp. You’d se the arm talent, but a lot of inconsistencies. For Caleb, if you go to any team’s practice, you’ll see go-routes for three or four minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quarterback throw it in the exact same spot on every single go-route.”
By the end of minicamp, Williams said he felt he improved in not being too loud or too quiet when vocalizing the snap count and in showing his ability to throw with anticipation compared to earlier in the week.
“I didn’t come in necessarily with the expectation to be and seem like a 13-year vet,” Williams said. “I came in to work, to work my tail off, show the guys that I’m here, I’m working my tail off, I’m progressing and trying not to make the same mistake again.
